TV On The Radio ‘Happy Idiot’ – The Song of the Week for 10/20/2014

Released September 2, 2014 via Harvest Records, “Happy Idiot” is the lead single off of Seeds, the 5th studio album by TV On The Radio

As of this writing, the new album isn’t out yet but fans of TV On The Radio should be thrilled with the first two songs released from the album – lead single “Happy Idiot” featured here and follow up single “Careful You”. Indeed the new material sounds great, presumably inspired by the emotions certainly felt by the deaf of original bass player and core TVOTR member Gerard Smith on April 20, 2011. New album Seeds will be the first album release since Nine Types of Light in 2011.

In a July 2014 press release where lead singer Tunde Adebimpe announced the upcoming album and stated:

“We’ve been through a lot of stuff in the past few years that could have stopped the band cold, but I’m glad we got it together and took stock of the unique connection we have between each other because the record is, 1,000 percent, without a doubt, the best thing we’ve ever done”

“What you don’t know won’t hurt you, yeah
Ignorance is bliss
I’m a happy idiot
Waving at cars.
I’m gonna bang my head to the wall
‘Till I feel like nothing at all
I’m a happy idiot
To keep my mind off you.
Stuck in a daze and I’ve lost my mind
I don’t wanna stay
Where the blame’s all mine”
