Alt-J “Breezeblocks” – The Song of the Week for 4/22/2013

Released May 18, 2012 as the 2nd single off debut album An Awesome Wave, “Breezeblocks” is becoming hugely popular a year later here in 2013.

Genre: Alternative, Indie Rock, Art Rock, Experimental, Psychedelic Folk

Readers of this site know that the song chosen for Song of the Week is usually new – sometimes brand spakin’ new. “Breezeblocks” is not new per se but it has started to climb Billboard’s Alternative Rock Songs Chart, currently peeking at #19. It was originally released back in May of last year. Since Alt-J is becoming so popular, all prior-released singles are coming back to the forefront. And no one deserves it more! Alt-J is a tremendously talented band and their debut album An Awesome Wave is truly outstanding. You can catch Alt-J on tour right now and the band also played this year’s Coachella. I was lucky enough to see them just last week at San Diego’s Belly Up Tavern. What a show! Expect great things from this still very up and coming young band.

This is Alt-J’s second Song of the Week, first getting a nod for single “Something Good” back on 12/31/2012.

“She may contain the urge to runaway
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Germaline disinfect the scene my love my love love love
But please don’t go I love you so my lovely
Please don’t go, please don’t go, I love you so, I love you so
Please don’t go, please don’t go, I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart – hey”
