Week in Review: September 26th through October 2nd, 2016

Last week was such a lack luster week in new releases that I didn’t even get around to doing a Week In Review post. Pretty much the only thing worth mentioning is that I found a gem from emerging artist Skott and named her new single release “Amelia” as the Song of the Week last week.

This week is a whole different story. Lots of fresh releases to sink your teeth into. Read on to see what I think stood out. Enjoy!

New Single Releases

Here are 5 featured single releases this week. Find more new music in the Spotify player below.

  • Metallica delivers blistering 2nd single “Moth Into Flame” off upcoming new album that I argue is the best song they have released since the Black Album
  • Kings of Leon drop 3rd single from upcoming new album Walls. Definitely the weakest of the 3 singles released
  • I consider The Weeknd largely a pop artist but I am really digging this new single “False Alarm”.
  • Capital Cities, the band with the smash hit “Safe And Sound” a couple years ago, are back with infectious new single “Vowels”
  • Indie poppers The Naked And Famous drop “The Runners”, yet another single off upcoming new album which is shaping up to be a doozy.

Song of the Week

Many strong singles released this week but this new Metallica song is a standout. Head over to the featured post to see a killer live video of the band performing the song of Jimmy Fallon this week.

Sold your soul
Built a higher wall
Yesterday
Now you’re thrown away

Same rise and fall
Who cares at all?
Seduced by fame
A moth into the flame

Here are 3 featured album releases this week. Find more new music in the Spotify player below.

  • Indie Pop/crossover sweetheart Banks looks to not have hit a sophomore slump with new album The Altar.
  • Bon Iver is back with first studio album in 5 years. Can 22, A Million even come close to his self-titled breakout album?
  • Yes! A new Regina Spektor album! Remember Us To Life is her 7th studio album

New Music Videos

I keep an eye on all the music videos being released on Youtube. Lately I’ve noticed bands releasing new singles/videos on Youtube even before Spotify or iTunes. If its a great video and/or a highly anticipated song, it will be added to the playlist below. Subscribe, my friend!

Raise your hand if you love watching bands perform their new singles on late night shows or other similar platforms. OK, if you raised your hand be sure to follow this feature week to week.
