“Narcissistic Cannibal” by Korn – The Song of the Week for 10/24/2011

korn-2011

“Narcissistic Cannibal” by Korn is the 2nd single to be released from The Path of Totality, set to be released on December 6, 2011

Genre: Nu Metal, Alternative Metal, Dubstep, Drum and Bass

I am totally digging this song! I really like the new direction Korn is going in. The new album The Path of Totality is said to fuse Korn’s traditional sound with dubstep, drum and bass, and electro house music. Korn collaborated with a number of producers for the album with each producing their own individual tracks.

In my opinion the chorus for “Narcissistic Cannibal” is the best Korn has written since “Got the Life” back in 1998.

Lead single “Get Up” was also produced by Skrillex and the video can be seen here.

“Don’t wanna be sly and defile you
Desecrate my mind
And rely on you
I just wanna break this crown
But it’s hard when I’m so run down”

“Our Love Saves Us” by Blindside is the 2nd single from the new album With Shivering Hearts We Wait, released June 7, 2011

Genre: Alternative Rock, Post-Hardcore

I am so stoked Blindside made a video for this song. I definitely think its the best song on the album. I still get chills whenever I hear it. I hope you fall in love with it too.

The 1st single from the new album was “Monster On The Radio” and it was chosen as the Song of the Week for 7/4/2011. With Shivering Hearts We Wait is a highly recommended album from an amazing and under-rated band!

“Our love saves us
The river runs deep but our spirits grow tall
Our love saves us now
We jump from stone to stone
but you know we won’t fall”

“Dark Horses” by Switchfoot is the lead single from the band’s 8th album Vice Verses, released on September 27, 2011

Genre: Post-Grunge, Alternative metal, Hard rock

A great catchy and sing-along track from my fellow San Diegans Switchfoot. This video for “Dark Horses” is fresh off the press.

“I’ve made my mistakes
I’ve seen my heart cave in
I got my scars
I’ve been to hell and back again

Born for the blue skies
We’ll survive the rain
Born for the sunrise
We’ll survive the pain”

“Paradise” by Coldplay – The Song of the Week for 10/3/2011

coldplay-band-picture

“Paradise” by Coldplay is slated to be the 2nd single from their upcoming album Mylo Xyloto, set to be released October 24, 2011

Genre: Electronic Rock, R&B

So here’s the thing: I don’t really consider myself a Coldplay “fan”. I end up liking less than half the singles I hear on the radio and I don’t own any of their albums. I have, however, heard just about every Coldplay song ever made. What keeps me from considering myself a fan? I am not sure but I have a lot of respect for the band. They have a huge worldwide following and continue to put out music people dig. They also continue to experiment and expand their sound, which I always think is a good thing.

With all that being said, I absolutely adore this new Coldplay song “Paradise”. I think this is the best Coldplay song I have ever heard. Maybe not as marketable and radio-friendly as past hits like “Yellow”, “Trouble”, “Viva La Vida”, and “Speed Of Sound”, but this song is awesome.

I agree with the choice to release “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” as the first single since it is much more marketable but I think “Paradise” blows it out of the water.
